As we step into the promising dawn of 2024, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a year filled with joy, good health, and exciting discoveries. This New Year offers a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've had at Tethys Fossil Museum in 2023.
🎉 Milestone Events in 2023:The year unfolded with remarkable events, and I am thrilled to share the highlights. In April 2023, we achieved a significant milestone with the pre-launch of Tethys Fossil Museum. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Ashok Sahni and the venerable Geologist, Dr. OM Bhargav.
🏛️ Museum Unveiling:Constructed from 30-million-year-old sandstone, the museum now stands as a haven for a diverse array of fossils collected from the Himalayas. These fossils include Stromatolite, Ediacara, Trilobites, foraminifera, Coral Hydrozoans, Bivalves, gastropods, Fishes, Turtles, Ammonites, Belemnites (from the Himalayas), Dinosaurs, Glossopteris from Rayoli and Bihar, Whale shark, Oysters, marine woods, beach sandstone, wood, silicified Palm leaves discovered from Ladakh and Kasauli, numerous Angiosperm specimens, including leaves, flowers, roots, seeds, and insect wings, and even Tusk of mammoths, lower jaw of Rhinoceros, Stone tools, and corals reefs from which Ram Sethu was made.
🌐 Online Experience:Embracing the digital age, we launched the Tethys Fossil Museum website (tethysfossilmuseum.in), where you can now conveniently book an online ticket to explore the museum. The site also hosts videos of talks given by our esteemed guests in 2022. I express my gratitude to Prof. Peter Molnar, who graciously shared his profound insights in what turned out to be his last talk. You can access his talk here.
📆 2024 Plans:Looking ahead to 2024, we're excited to announce plans for a cafeteria and a 30-chair conference room within the Tethys Fossil Museum. These additions aim to enhance your overall experience and provide a space for intellectual discussions and delightful refreshments.
👏 Invitation:I extend a warm invitation to each one of you to visit the museum in 2024. Immerse yourself in the captivating story of Tethys and witness the rich fossil wealth discovered in this unique sanctuary.
